Interactive Narrative Project [ Outline ]
Examples (due Mon. 4.11)
Do research to find 4 inspirational examples similar to how you envision the project. Describe each example in relation to the issues discussed in the “Hypertext, Hypermedia and Literary Studies: The State of the Art” paper. For example, how does your example challenge our understanding of narrative content? How does it engage the user visually and interactively? Is the example a non-linear experience? Does the work provide internal and external hypertextual (linked) cross-rferenced information and is this done with text, images, sound, video or a combination? As the participant, document your experience--how did you shift the point of focus—what paths did you take through the content (Did you follow external hypertextual references which lead you further from the original work and did this help you understand the content better)?
Post this information to the website by Mon. (4.11) (there will be an entry titled “Interactive narrative project examples” where you can leave this information in the “comments”. You also need to have a printed copy of these examples to keep in your process book [with a screen shot of a primary page and a secondary page].
Interaction
your understanding and use of hypertext will be the primary issue in creating an interactive experience for the user. How will the user interact with your work and what paths will you provide through the content? The experience will be non-linear, but as the designer you will decide how users will browse through the work and linked, cross-referenced information. The project should contain internal hyperlinked information as well as external hyperlinked information. External hyperlinks should provide information within the context of your project. For example, a poem may contain hyperlinked text that points the user to a list of works created by the author, or text that provides historical background, a dictionary or thesaurus definition explaining the meaning of a specific word, or to any other form of media, such as music, photography, video; anything that resembles the same idea or emotion.
